Puppetry is the famous folk art in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The rule of dynasty of Vijayanagara is considered as “Golden age of art”. The great emperor Shree Krishna Devaraya gifted two villages to puppetry artists. Now its hard to find out the professional puppetry artists. But the memories of great dance form is reminded in lampshades, wall hangings, mirror frames and note book covers. Even leather puppets are available to decor home.
The influence of modernization has made the people to forget the rich art forms of our country. There are villages in the Karnataka – Andhra border region, where people were involved in either puppetry or hosting shows. Now due to the arrival of electronic media, many art forms are moving away from the minds of people. But the puppetry artists have made a great idea for the survival of this great art. The artists have started to make leather puppetries, crafts, wall hangings etc…Which is attracting many customers.
Shinde Sriramulu, a national award winning artist makes a variety of puppets. This talent is the gift from his ancestors and now he exhibits and sales puppets across the country. Many of us are not aware how they make puppets. Puppets are made of goat skin. Artisans of three different skills collectively work on each puppet. First of all they select a mythological figure, usually the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata are the themes of puppetry. Later they make different parts for the puppets. Later they dress them up with colourful costumes and jewels. Female puppets are coloured yellow where as red, green and black are the commonly used colours. Three stitched bamboos are there to move the puppets. We can feel the care and love of artists make these puppets. It takes 40 days attentive work to make a puppet. Carrying these puppets and giving shows are the great joy for the artists. Now, these puppets are made but they will be in the showcase or hanging on walls. Always a true artist look forward for applauds from viewers not money. But puppetry artists are helpless. Selling crafts of puppetry is the one and only alternative option to feed their dependents. Hope at least the crafts of puppetry will survive forever.
Where our media really focusing? If anyone is in search of answer for this definitely the documentary “Nero’s guest” will give the best answer. Media’s profit oriented biased coverage leaving the blood sucking poverty unnoticed. As we know India has 64% farmers, but we can hardly find at least an hour program about either on agriculture or rural affairs. The outstanding direction of Deepa Bhatia is succeeded in pouring light on the present condition of farmers in India. The eminent journalist P.Sainath’s experience of reporting about farmers’ suicide at Vidharbha and also Nagpur and in U.P has made every viewer to start critical thinking on the issue.
Every year there are number of farmers commit suicide, but no camera to cover it .In this country if a celebrity gets a fever ,it becomes a news. But if a farmer die due to debt, crop loss or starvation its a absolute silly news for media. Not only media ,all of us are responsible for this negligence. The Lakme fashion show has more than 500 media crew, but Vidharbha?
We study media ethics and speak about non profit based service to society. But journalism is also becoming an industry. Journalists are not stay in villages ,they are not ready to be rural affairs reporter if they wont get extra salary. Is this the dedication towards the society what is meant in media ethics?
After watching the documentary no one can say that “India is shining”. More than half of the population is dying in poverty. But who will hear the cry? The government will listen to corporate while making policy. So, it will be our foolishness if we expect equality and life security in this country. What are not able to grow in western countries, are grown here. Our farmers are the least victims of exploitation. Are we living in a real Independent country which has all the capacity to form policies without minding the pressure from developed countries and corporate? The documentary keep digging answer for all these questions. Malnourished children, unemployed youth, women in bare forehead, suffering coolie workers, school drop outs, after watching all these who has the courage to say “ India is developing” .

The beautiful Marati movie “Harishchandrachi factory” is a great attempt to convey the struggle of a man to make a first Indian feature movie .Director Paresh Mokashi has not disappointed viewers. The “Father of Indian cinema” Dadasaheb Palke is a person who done miracles. When no one was trusting about possibilities of movie making , he started to work with hope. Not only Nandhu Madhav (Palke) , all the co-actors has given justice to their roles. The humour keeps the viewer awake .In all those scenes Nandu Madhav gives competition to Mr.Bean and Charlie.A pious Marati lady, Saraswathi was a great spirit for her husband. The commitment of family to make a movie is unmatchable. When a British director forces him to stay back in London, Palke says all his creativity is for his country and no one is there to make a movie if he remains in London. The patriotism and love on Indian cinema portrayed here. Some scenes are mirror of Indian middle class life.
When the movie did not get good collection, team goes to give publicity. All the brilliant ideas Palke was applying even it suits for present trend. The costume design in some scenes ,looks like much suitable for modern days rather than pre-Independent India. When Palke looses his eye sight , the dialogues he delivers are marvellous .Not only there,in entire movie dialougues touch the viewers. Some scenes are the mirrors of Indian middle class life. The four prostitutes have given great performance. Even though the movie is in Marathi , no need of subtitles. The expressions and scenes conveys the meaning. The darker sides of Palke’s life is not shown completly. How he arranges the money and his family’s struggle are not shown well. The humour and fun indirectly eaten the seriousness of movie .Many may feel that Palke and troop had great fun in making Raja Harischandra, and may forget his hard time. The background music and editing is outstanding.
No doubt, the “Harischandrachi Factory” is a master piece .Its entertaining and mind blogging in some aspects. But little bit seriousness could make the movie more heart touching.Truly inspiring movie for young film makers.
Significance of Aristotle’s Model
Today “ communication “is one of the most interested area of study. Every one dreams to become a effective communicator. The study of communication model helps us in this manner. The study of communication is very old concept. Aristotle was the great scholar of 3oo B.C, who took the initiative to design the very first model of communication, which is called as “Aristotle’s model of communication”.
The communication model of Aristotle is widely accepted because of its simplicity. Anyone who is needs to excel themselves in public speaking ,seminar, presentations can make use of this model. Here the sender is the active and the receiver is passive one.
1.Aristotle is the first scholar to give a model to communication.
2.He has given greater importance to the role of a speaker. So, its very useful to all those who want to mould their pubic speaking skill.
3.According to this model, the speaker should know about his target audience .For example their educational background, socio economic status, etc…….So that he can prepare his speech on the basis of all these.Such communication definitely will reach his audience in effective manner.
4.The non verbal communications significance also mentioned indirectly.
5.The Aristotle’s model of communication is widely accepted model of communication . Even though there are some critics this model stands unique in its own way .
6.In this communication model both the sender and receiver acts in a responsible manner.
7.Its very useful for anyone who is going to be the public speaker.
8.This model is concerntrated more on public speaking than interpersonal communication.
The shannon –Weaver’s model of communication
The shanon and weaver model (1949) represents the process of communication in a linear manner. There is a direct link between the sender and receiver .In all there are seven components in a linear model. There is a source of information. Similarly there is a destination to the information being sent. The information is encoded in the form of message by the transmitter and sent to the receiver. The receiver receives it and encodes it.
The similarities & differences between Aristotle’s model and Shannon – Weaver model :
1.In Aristotles model the speaker has gained more importance. This theory gives more guidance to a person who want to become a effective public speaker.
In Shannon – Weaver’s both the sender and receiver are equal important.
2.The Shannon – Weaver’s model is developed by the mathematicians. Its more technical and scientific. The Aristotle’s model is is very much comprehensive and its possible for a common man to understand make use of this model.
3. Shannon – Weaver’s model says that the communication is complete only when one takes account of noise and feedback. For a successful communication its vital that the receiver gives feedback to the sender. This model says that, a feedback may be verbal or non-verbal but its the indication that the receiver is getting the message.Ongoing feedback also possible in the communication. Noise is the disturbance which breaks the meaning of communication. The feedback and noise is not mentioned in the Aristotle’s model.
4.The Shannon and Weaver model is more static and linear compared to Aristotle,s model.
5.If we want to know what is Shannon and Weavers model its necessary to know the meaning of its each component. The model of Aristotle is very much easy to understand ,Because the components only tells their meaning.
6.The It’s more effective in person-to-person communication than group or mass audience.
7. The model based on “Sender and Receiver”. Here sender plays the primary role and receiver plays the secondary role (receive the information or passive). The model is clearly deals with external noises only which affect the messages or signals from external sources. For example: If there is any problems occur in network which directly affect the mobile Aristotle proposed a model of communication suitable for public speaking. He put the speaker at the centre of the communication process. The speaker prepares a message for an intended audience. The message is intended to have an effect- influence the audience. The audience is seen to be passive and ready to be influenced by the speaker’s message.
To put it in other words, according to Aristotle a speaker sends a message to an audience and the audience is affected by the message received.
8.According to Aristotle’s model the message which is encoded from the speaker reaches the audience directly.
But the Shannon and Weaver rejected this .According to them the message has to face one or the other obstacles which is known as “Noise”. So, I consider Shannon and Weaver’s model as more realistic one. Because when we brings the communication theory into practice, we will come to experience personally the noise or disturbance each prevents us to reach our audience. So. who ever going to be the public speaker its better to refer this model, because we will become aware about the obstacles.
9.The communication model of Shannon and Weaver clearly shows that why even the simple communication becomes complex. Its easier to understand why other people can not understand our message. But in Aristotle’s model lots of importance is given to speaker and how should he communicate, so the receiver receives less attention.Whether he understood the message or not is ignored.
10.Shannon and weaver model is widely applicable . social science fields such as education, organizational analysis, psychology, etc. In engineering and mathematics , Shannon’s theory is used more literally and is referred to as Shannon theory. Even the Aristotle’s model also referred by several fields, but on a general basis.
11.The Shannon and Weaver model is most applicable to inter personal communication, where the sender and receiver are having the opportunity to know each other, and there is chances for mutual interaction. But the communication model of Arisrtotle is much applicable for public communication where a single person address mass audience, and the audience may know the speaker ,but the speaker may not know each audience. The sender may not know how the receiver is feeling with the message.
Eventhough, there are certain limitations in Aristotle’s and Shannon and Weaver’s model , they are master pieces in explaining the process of communication. We can make use of both the models to be a best communicator. Both the models have greater contribution to the study of communication.

Companies’ social responsibilities is the latest trend in business world. Each company has social obligations to work for the upliftment of society. We here a lot in medias about the social service works done by companies The most interfered areas of CSR are education and environment protection, health. Fortune magazine includes a section listing their top 10 socially responsible companies of world ,which includes Nestle, Hochtief etc…the rich and prestigious companies of world.CSR is one of the newest management strategies where companies try to create a positive impact on society while doing business. There is no clear-cut definition of what CSR comprises. Every company has different CSR objectives though the main motive is the same. Social responsibility is a duty every organization has to perform so as to maintain a balance between the economy and the ecosystem. The Indian companies are also not lagging behind in CSR . The CSR is contributing a lot for social development. It is the long term interest of the companies to serve the interests of the society. The educational facilities, medical facilities, recreational facilities, transport facilities ,and pollution control ensured by the business ,ensure good environment, friendly local environment, better employees .But there are some hidden intentions in the CSR .If a buiseness concerntrates only on the improvement of the profitability of its business activities and fails to serve the interests of the society voluntarily , there is the danger of the government forcing the business to serve the needs of the society through legislation .This will reduce the freedom of the buiseness .So,its in the intrest of the buiseness to serve the social needs voluntarily. Thus ,the fear of government interference is one of the factors responsible for the social companies. If a buiseness fails to serve the intrest of the society voluntarily, there are chances of nationalization of private undertakings by the government. The fear of nationalization is also may the reason behind CSR.By serving the social needs , a company can improve its public image.Good public image is an essential element for the success of any business. The ecological degradation and environmental pollution like water pollution, air pollution and noise pollution caused by large industries can be arrested only if business units assume social responsibilities and adopt measures to check the ecological degradation and environmental pollution. The development of moral values and social standards and realization of human values by business is also responsible for the assumptions of social responsibilities by the business in an increasing measure.
Its true that profit is necessary for any business . But earning profit can not be the sole objective of a truly successful company. When the companies come up with the social obligations ,we can not assume that they are really concerned with society. But one considerable fact is ,in the country like India the intervention of companies in social service is much needed. There may be little greed behind service, but still what the service companies are giving to the society are appreciable.
